Audrey Cook from YoungHollywood.com reports that some of the designers that are newcomers to New York Fashion Week have already gained support from some of Hollywood’s starlets.
These new faces to Fashion Week will take to the runway to showcase their Spring 2012 collections.
One collection that will probably have a star-studded audience is J. Crew.
This collection is a favorite among many celebrities including Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Obama, Olivia Wilde, Katherine Heigl, Kate Walsh, and even Suri Cruise.
Despite its popularity in Hollywood, J. Crew is a newbie to New York Fashion Week. The brand will be making its first Fashion Week runway appearance at the Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Parkin New York next week.
Another designer to the stars that will be making her first appearance on the runway during New York Fashion Week is Gabriela Perezutti with her collection Candela. Perezutti’s style is a combination of her Uruguayan ranching upbringing with equestrian and traditional gaucho influences with a mixture of urban and edgy elements, inspired from her current lifestyle in New York City. She applies her distinctive style to design creative and unique ready-to-wear clothes and shoes. Her designs have been spotted on Lauren Conrad, Kate Hudson, Ciara, Lindsay Lohan, and Fergie.
A-Listers including Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift (pictured above), Eva Longoria, and Rosario Dawson have all dazzled in his gowns at awards shows and red carpet events over the years; so who is the mastermind behind these creations that is a newcomer to this year’s Fashion Week? That would be Rafael Cennamo. Cennamo’s designs derive from bold colors, luxurious fabrics, and edgier structures to create modern pieces from classic couture silhouettes. He successfully runs his company from his New York office and plans to open boutiques in both New York and Miami.
Peacock may be one of the hottest trends for spring 2012 – Falguni and Shane Peacock that is. Many celebrities have stepped out wearing Falguni and Shane Peacock creations, including Michelle Williams, sitting front row at one of their fashion shows. Additionally, Fergie dazzled in a short black and blue dress accented with feathered sleeves by the designers for the American Music Awards last year (pictured at right). The designers attribute their success to their attention to detail and unique styling that they contribute to each design to create Luxury. “A dress must make, in an instant, a statement without the help of accessories.” Falguni and Shane Peacock make use of the signature feathers, sequins, and prints for their collections.
Topping off the list of newbies hitting the runway at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is President and Head Designer of the women’s wear line Pink Tartan, Kimberley Newport-Mimran. Pink Tartan is a line that takes classic pieces, such as menswear shirts, and cuts it snugly to fit a woman’s body and then modernizes it with a ruffle or fresh new color each season. Newport-Mimran takes this same approach to other classic styles, including the pea coat, the silk jersey dress, and, of course, the little black cocktail dress. ”I’m a sportswear designer,” says Newport-Mimran. “Clothes to live your life in and easily transition from day to night.” Hollywood’s leading ladies, including Kim Cattrall, Jenny McCarthy, Vanessa Williams, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Kate Hudson have all been spotted sporting pieces from the Pink Tartan collection.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is September 8-15 in New York City, and will showcase Spring 2012 collections from numerous designers.
